Who was Bano Qudsia, and what did she do?

The late Bano Qudsia is also known by the name of Bano aapa.  The name by which she got famous is not her real name, and when she was born, she was named Qudsia Chatta.

Bano Qudsia was a famous Pakistani Urdu novelist.  She wrote novels, short stories, dramas, and plays. The novelist wrote for the Pakistani TV and stage in Urdu and Punjabi languages. She was regarded as one of the best writers of modern times.

Where was Qudsia aapa born?

She was born to a father with an agricultural background in the year 1928 on 28th November.  Her place of birth is Firozpur. After the partition of the subcontinent took place, the novelist moved to Lahore with her family and started her education here. Qudsia aapa completed her M.A degree in URDU from the Government College Lahore.

To whom Bano Qudsia was married and how many children does she have?

Bano Qudsia was married to Ashfaq Ahmed, who was himself a novelist too. Qudsia gives credit to her husband for transforming her after their marriage and allowing her to focus on her writing skills. The couple has three sons named Anees, Aneeque, and Aseer.

When did she start writing?

The famous novelist had an intellectual and sensitive personality.  It is said that she was a spiritual person. She was of the opinion that spirits after this world meet their alive and dead fellows. She started writing short stories when she was studying in class five.

The government of Pakistan awarded Sitara-i-Imtiaz to the lady novelist in the year 1983.

The Pakistani government awarded HIlal-i-Imtiaz to the novelist in the year 2010. Her services in the field of Urdu literature were not overseen by the government bodies.

Kamal-e-Fun Award

The Pakistan Academy of Letters awarded Bano Qudsia with the Kamal-e-Fun Award. This award is a lifetime achievement award. The award was presented to her in 2012.

Due to her incredible services in Urdu literature, the lady was awarded with a lifetime achievement award in 2016 by the GCU's Old Radians Union. The award was presented at their annual social gathering. The same year; 2016, the Pakistan Life Care Foundation (PLCF) also presented the lifetime achievement award to Qudsia aapa. This highlights the fact that her contribution to the Urdu literature can never be neglected.
