Graphic Card Overview
Different types of graphic cards are available in the market. A graphic card is basically a type of video card which is installed in the computer devices for displaying graphical data with high quality. It is also known as a graphics adapter or videographer. It is basically designed for removing graphical tasks from the RAM or processor. It Graphical processing unit is a dedicated RAM that helps in processing graphical data in no time. This card also has s specific heat sink which keeps the heat out of the graphical processing unit. It displays images with high pixels and a broad range of colors. This card can be inserted into the motherboard or can be added as an extension card. Pictures seen on the computer screen are made of tiny dots, which are called pixels. A screen displays about millions of pixels at one time. The computer has to make a decision about which pixels to display for image formation. So to perform this task, graphics cards have been introduced which translate the binary data from CPU to the picture, which is seen on the screen.
Although the work of graphic cards is very complicated, still its components can easily be understood. A graphics card's job is complicated, but its principles and components are easy to understand.
Components:
The following components are necessary for carrying out the task of graphic cards.
- Motherboard connection for power and data
- The processor which decides which pixels should appear on the screen or not.
- Memory for holding pixel information and temporarily store the completed picture.
- A computer screen for visualizing the final results of the graphic card.
Creating an image from the binary data is a complex and time taking task. To make a 3D image, the following steps are carried out
- A graphics card creates a wireframe of straight lines.
- Then the image outline is converted into pixels
- The graphics card adds colors, lighting, and texture to it.
- Then the Final image can be seen displayed on the monitor.
This process is completed in a concise period of time. For games, this process takes place again and again. Without a graphics card, it would be very time taking process.
