Basically, macaws are classified as large macaws and mini macaws. Scarlet macaw comes in the category of large macaw. Its length can be up to 89 cm. Hyacinth macaw can have a length of almost 100 cm. The length of blue and golden colored macaw is in between 80 cm to 90 cm. Macaws are usually large parrots as compared to the size of other parrots.

Now let's talk about the weight of Macaws. Believe me, they are heavy. Weight of scarlet macaw is up to 1 kg. The heaviest macaw is Hyacinth Macaw. Its weight can be up to 1.2 kgs to 1.7 kgs. This macaw is known as a red-shouldered macaw.

Life Span and Native Region of Macaws

Macaws can live up to 30 years. It all depends on the diet they take. If you have kept a macaw as a house pet, then make sure you give them a balanced diet so they can increase their life span. They might be able to live for more than 30 years if well treated. The native region of macaws is central America and South America. Most of them are found in the rainforest, and some of them are found in woodland or savannah-like habitats.  The breed in the jungle, but it is hard to make them breed in captivity. Macaws are very tall. Make sure whenever you buy a macaw, it's cage should be very large and if you want to buy a parrot stand for it, it should be in a high position. This is because the tail of a large macaw is very tall and can touch the ground. It may damage the tail. A toy is a must for a macaw so it can chew it. If you don't give a toy to macaw, then it may eat it's feather and will damage itself.
