Functioning
Google Chromecast is a small dongle like device that is to be plugged into a TV’s HDMI port with the USB cable that is already attached to it. The Google Cast technology can be operated in two ways;
- The device can be mirrored from an Android device’s chrome browser or a personal computer.
- Chromecast can also be run with the help of mobile and web apps that can host the technology.
To initiate the programming of the device, the 'cast' button on the sender is used.
To date, three generations of Google Chromecast have been introduced in the market.
First Generation
The First Generation Chromecast was a USB plug shaped, video coursing device. It worked with an ARM-Cortex processor. Chromecast (1st generation) was a simple video streaming stick. However, this device is no longer accepting updates as Google has now released the newer versions. Interestingly, the Chromecast (1st generation) bore references to the novel ‘The Hitchhiker’s Guide to Galaxy’ and the television series ‘Mystery Science Theater 3000’.
2nd Generation
The Chromecast (2nd Generation) was a more sophisticated, evolved version of the first. It had a spherically shaped body, with an HDMI USB port attached to it. The body was magnetic, for better adjustment and a composed look.
It had improved dual ARM Cortex processor, 3 built-in adaptive antennas for variable internet options. It was agreed upon that Chromecast (2nd Generation) had a better WiFi support system. It is supported by a 512 MB Samsung RAM and 256 MB storage. The saucer-shaped device was an ode to the 'Star Trek' franchise.
Chromecast Audio – 2nd Generation variant
Chromecast Audio is an audio streaming device, built solely for the home audio system. The device provides access to audio streaming and is perfect for an at-home theatrical experience.
In addition to this, the vinyl record resembling Chromecast Audio allows you to simultaneously play music across several devices with the help of the Google Home mobile app. This multiple-room music system was well-liked.
The device was referenced to the Rock guitarist Jimi Hendrix.
3rd Generation
Google Chromecast (3rd Generation) works well with 1080p resolution TVs. It evolved from the 2nd Generation with faster streaming options. It has the simplest, least complicated interface and can easily be accessed through Android devices.
Chromecast Ultra
Chromecast Ultra is by far the best Google Chromecast device. It provides 4K resolution and has an excellent display. Apart from 4K, it also supports HDR and Dolby visions.
Chromecast Ultra is 1.8 times faster than its predecessors. In addition to this, it contains Ethernet cable for better internet options to make the streaming of 4K content possible. It also has an additional power supply for connection to an outlet.
Google Chromecast price is reasonable and varies with different models.
