Keyboard Overview
The keyboard is a basic input device that anyone would require for working with the computer system, in the early times. The keyboards were as big as the computers. A lot of effort was needed to give inputs to the computer.
- As time passed, the devices or we can say the computer systems have become compact. With the requirement for compact systems, keyboards have also become compact.
- The keyboards have keys for all the alphabets, numbers, and other shortcut keys that can be used to give inputs to the computer.
- Keyboard has a lot of short cut keys that can initiate an action in no time.
- The keyboard can stand independently while the mouse of the computer system or laptop is not working.
- Esc key can be used for any application to perform the different tasks by a single key. It can be used to exit a window that is no longer required.
Keyboard for Computers
- The old keyboard used for computers, in the early 2000s, was big and stiff. They have two supporting stands at the bottom, one on the right side and the other on the left. These stands were present a lot with the flat surface of the keyboard. These stands were used to give a slope for comfortable typing facilities.
- Now the keyboard for computers has become slim and even compact.
- The buttons on the keyboard are made small. The keyboard is made touch-sensitive. A slight and gentle touch on the keyboard can print the desired key on the computer screen.
- The keyboard is made compact, along with retaining all the features it can provide.
- In the new keyboards, a single key can perform more than one task. The keys are accessed with some shortcut keys for multi-functioning.
Lit computer keyboard
For the ease of night workers, the companies have now produced lit computer keyboards. These keyboards emit light when any of the buttons is pressed.
It is very helpful when you are working in a dark room or a place where there is no light. Your keyboard lit feature can highlight the buttons on the keyboard, and you can type or perform another task easily.
Types of keyboards
Wireless Keyboards
Wireless Keyboards are connected to computers through Bluetooth, radiofrequency, or IR technology. You can place the keyboard anywhere according to your ease and perform the task. Wireless keyboards give you a benefit that you don’t have to sit in front of a computer constantly to perform a task.
These wireless keyboards can be operated within the range of 7 to 10 meters. Beyond this limit, the Bluetooth connection will be lost, and your keyboard will no longer be connected to the computer system.
Mechanical Keyboard
This keyboard produces sound every time a button is pressed from it. You can relate these types of keyboards with the typewriters. When a key is pressed on the mechanical keyboard, an electric signal is sent to the computer system. This electric signal produces a slight sound that ensures that a key has been pressed.
USB keyboard
USB keyboards, as described by the name, has a USB wire attached to it. The USB keyboards are connected by attaching the wire to the USB port of the CPU.
The computer system does not have the drivers that can initiate its working. Because of this issue, the user has to install the external driver to run the keyboards. While rebooting, these types of keyboards are not supported by the computer.
Thumb Keyboard
The Thumb keyboard is usually the ones that we have on or smartphone. These keyboards are touch-sensitive. They have a keypad displays on the touch screen. Whenever you press the desired area of the screen, a number or letter is beneath it is printed.
Another type of thumb keyboard only has a few keys on it or only have the numeric keyboard. These keys are controlled by a single thumb. For this purpose, the thumb keyboard is very small in size. It is used to solve arithmetic operations or is also used while gaming.
Multimedia keyboard
Multimedia keyboards are specifically designed to entertain the processes related to multimedia. It has separate buttons for play, pause, volume up, and volume-down, skip, fast speed, forward and rewind, etc.
Compact keyboard
A small and compact keyboard is easy if the user has to travel to different areas. In these keyboards, a single key is assigned to do more than one task. This is done with the help of other shortcut keys like shift, control, tab, etc. there are other F series on the keyboard. The particular function of these keys is to perform shortcut functions.
Bluetooth Keyboard
The Bluetooth keyboard is similar to wireless keyboards. These keyboards are designed so that the user can have empty USB ports for other important functions. Otherwise, one USB port of the computer is always reserved for the keyboard.
