DVR System Overview
The DVR system, Digital Video Recorder, is an electronic device that is commonly used to record the video digitally. It is also referred to as PVR (Personal Video Recorder).
Features
Many features are offered in a DVR, and usually, a DVR has 2 receivers inside it.
When you are watching one channel, the other channel can be recorded without any extra effort. Some DVRs can take this further and allow you to record multiple channels, shows while you can watch something prerecorded or something that is life.
The DVR’s storage commonly hard drives inside it, an SSD, or a flash drive for storage purposes. An average hard disk inside a DVR of 512 GB can give a recording capacity of around 50 hours of high definition video recording.
Time Shift
The time shift feature is where a user can pause the live TV while watching it. A DVR is able to do this because it is constantly recording what a user is watching, that means if you have to do something while watching something on the TV, you can pause it and get your work completed and then play from where you left off. This feature also allows a user to rewind what they are watching because of its ability to record; you can easily scroll and watch from wherever you want.
Electronic Program Guide (EPG)
The DVR has a really great feature and works great with the Electronic Program Guide as this feature allows to have the schedule of all the upcoming content on the TV, from there you can select the desired content to be recorded. A user can simply select the content, and then the recording will be done by the DVR on its own without the user having to put any additional effort.
Connectivity
Most modern DVR’s are now equipped with features that allow a user to connect to the DVR using an application on their mobile phones; this allows them to have the content schedules ahead ad can very easily, in fact effortlessly record, watch and control their DVR using only their mobile phones and obviously, why not? Everyone loves being facilitated, and this feature allows the user to interact with the device in the palm of their hands on their mobile phones.
Uses
The DVR systems have definitely brought such ease in the world of recording; it has helped many other fields rather than just being limited to the television only.
Security
The DVR systems are used with the surveillance systems, i.e., CCTV systems, which allow them to record effortlessly and can store huge amounts of data of video recordings. These recordings definitely can be watched, fast-forwarded, and played in slow motion as well.
Most of the modern DVR systems offer connectivity of the CCTV’s with the mobile phone, where a user is connected with the system through their mobile phone and can watch the live surveillance video simply on their mobile phones. This also allows the user to rewind, pause, and scroll the videos on mobile phones easily.
Drawbacks
With DVR’s being such useful devices, they also have some drawbacks, for example, the size of the video recording. You can definitely record shows, seasons, and videos but, to a limited extend, according to the size of the storage that a DVR has pre-installed.
Similarly, there are some TV channel operators that do not allow the recording of some particular shows and content, and it can’t be transferred to another storage medium as well.
