Metal Detector Overview
In the current times, when the matter of security could not be taken for granted in any way, it is very important to have those means for security checks that are reliable and accurate.
As technology is advancing and developing at a very rapid rate on one hand if it is a good sign, on the other hand, it is also helping the corrupt and criminal minds in doing their corruption a larger scale with the help of technology.
To tackle the issues of security and making all the environments safe for the citizens of that area, tools such as metal detectors are used. A metal detector is a tool that is electronic and as the name itself identifies its job, that is to detect the existence of metal that is lying nearby this electronic device.
All the objects that are either made up of metal or even have a small piece of metal inside them, they are detected by the metal detector.
Even the objects that are made of metal or have a piece of metal incorporated inside them and are buried underground; they could be found by the metal detector due to the sensors that are built inside this electronic tool. Any object that is made up of metal and is being hidden; it could also be found by using the metal detector.
Indication
The metal detector has different ways of telling that any object made up of metal has been found somewhere near. The commonly practiced two ways of indicating the presence of a metal object
- Changing voice
- Moving needle
When the sensor that is built in the metal detector is brought near any metallic piece, then the metal detector starts producing a different tone that is labeled for the indication of metal. The other way for a metal detector to indicate that there is a metallic object lying nearby is the moving needle.
The needle that is present on the indicator is placed there for identification of the presence of any object having metal inside it. The closer the metallic object is, the louder the tone would be produced or the higher the needle would move.
Types
There is not just one type of metal detector out there but three.
Three different types of the metal detector; all three of them performing the same core job but with their respective efficiencies and characteristics.
The three types of metal detectors are
- FBS
- PI
- VLF
VLF
VLF type is the simplest type of metal detector. VLF means Very Low Frequency, as the name implies the usage of this type of metal detector does not require high frequencies.
Rather very low frequency is a perfect choice for them. The main reasoning for calling this type as very low-frequency detectors is that they have only one frequency that is fixed which is less than 30 kHz. It is usually somewhere around a minimum of 6 kHz up to a maximum of 20 kHz.
PI
PI means Pulse Induction. The pulse induction type of metal detector is used for a slightly heavy workload concerning the detection of metal near the sensor.
This type of detector use frequencies that are higher than those used by the previous type of metal detectors i.e., Very Low Frequency. Also, go deeper down the ground.
FBS
FBS type of metal detectors is the most complex and heavy usage metal detectors. FBS means Full-Bans Spectrum. This type of metal detector uses not a single type of frequency; rather, it uses multiple frequencies.
When these multiple frequencies are used by a single sector, it seems like several metal detectors are tuned in a way that they are acting a single unity of metal detector.
